We, The Survivors

We, the survivors of the times of despair

When cities collapsed and societies dispersed,

We, though filled with fear and losing all hope,

Knew that we were the last chance for our people.

We, the survivors of the harsh wilderness

When others stayed in the doomed cities,

We, though we had nothing to our name,

Would find the engine that would keep us alive.

We, the survivors of the initial frost

When others would stay near the dying flame,

We, for it was our only chance for survival,

Built a city from the ground up.

We, the survivors of hazardous living conditions,

When others would see the coming storm and stop,

We, to ensure a future for those who would come after us,

Did everything we could to ensure the continuation of our legacy.

We, the survivors of forced order,

When many lived in fear of what we might become

We, at the risk of the lives of ourselves and those around us,

Resisted control to hope others could live without fear.

We, the survivors of a terrible civil war,

When the city around us burned

We did everything we could to keep the city stable.

And we have failed.
